Experiences of violence by women with a migratory background in the context of Covid-19
Abstract
The project highlighted the problem of domestic violence against migrant women in Austria under the special circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic. On behalf of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF), the project team of abif interviewed experts from various support and counselling institutions, including womens shelters, violence protection centres, associations as well as womens and migrants counselling centres. The evidence gathered sheds light on the difficulties and needs of women who have experienced violence in general and is valid beyond the Covid-19 crisis. In addition, some peculiar factors came to light, which are either of particular importance for women with a migratory background, for women from certain communities or regions of origin, or for the conditions at the time of the pandemic and the accompanying measures of the federal government.
